Everything parents need to know about using GoTime to meet state supervised driving requirements and get your teen ready for the DMV.
Only the supervising parent or guardian needs an account. Your teen doesn't need to create one — you can log and manage all their driving sessions yourself. If your teen wants to view their own progress or log sessions independently, they're welcome to create their own account and join the family group, but it's entirely optional.
Either can start a session, but the supervising adult must be present in the car. Most families find it easiest for the parent to tap 'Start Driving' at the beginning of each session and 'End' when the drive is complete. The app records the supervising driver's name on every log entry.
Absolutely. GoTime's family sync lets you add Mom, Dad, grandparents, and even a driving instructor to a single family group. Every session they log is automatically combined into one complete record for your teen — no emailing spreadsheets or merging files.
Yes. Each teen gets their own separate profile with independent progress tracking, session history, and supervisor access. You manage both from a single app.
Hour requirements vary by state — most require between 40 and 60 total hours, with a portion specifically at night. You can look up your state in our table of supervised driving hours by state. GoTime's dashboard shows your state's goal and tracks your teen's progress toward it in real time. We recommend also verifying current requirements directly with your state's DMV, as laws can change.
GoTime uses real sunset and sunrise data for your exact location and date. Every session is automatically classified as day or night based on when you drove — not by a fixed time like 6 PM. This means your logs are accurate even across seasons and time zones.
Each log entry captures: drive duration, distance, day or night classification, weather conditions (clear, rain, snow, fog), road type (city, highway, suburban, rural), the supervising driver's name, and any optional practice notes you want to add. GPS handles the time and distance automatically.
GoTime will prompt you to end the session. In cases where it was missed, you can manually edit the session end time from the History screen so your log remains accurate.
Yes. You can manually enter past sessions directly in the app. If you were previously using RoadReady, you can also import that log from a PDF — GoTime will pull in all your existing sessions automatically so you don't lose any hours.
GoTime generates a formatted PDF log with every field DMVs ask for, including a parent certification and signature block. The exported report includes all session details in a structured format that meets standard DMV requirements. That said, we always recommend calling your local DMV in advance to confirm exactly what they accept, since requirements can vary by county or office.
From your teen's profile, tap 'Export Log.' You can print a formatted PDF directly or share it digitally. You can also export as a CSV for driving schools or your own records.
Yes — the dashboard shows a live circular progress display broken down by total hours, day hours, and night hours, all measured against your state's requirement. The History page also includes an interactive bar graph so you can see progress over weeks and months.
No. GPS is only active during an active driving session. GoTime does not run continuous background location tracking outside of a session.
Never. GoTime does not sell your family's location data or driving logs to any third party. All session data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
You can request a full account deletion from within the app, which permanently removes all personal data from our servers. See our Delete Account page for step-by-step instructions.
